1.5 Liter Mug design in Solidworks 2010

This is my first article on this blog where I have designed 1.5 Liter plastic Mug which we are using in our house.I am working on Solidworks since my college. There are a lot of ways on modeling this Mug. I have modeled this with the help of Surfacing and Modeling. The below picture shows the original and 3D model designed in Solidworks 2010.

This tutorial will incorporate the use of the following Solidworks commands or tools.
  • How to draw a circle.
  • How to use Trim Entities command.
  • How to use Offset Entities command.
  • How to create boundary using Filled  Surface command.
  • How to make a sketch on surface.
  • How to create surfaces using Extruded Surface command.
  • How give Draft while Extruding.
  • How to Convert Entities.
  • How to Split the surfaces using Split Line command.
  • Deleting surface using Delete Face command.
  • How to Knit open surfaces using Knit Surface command.
  • How to generate new surface from curves using Lofted Surface command.
  • Fillet command.
  • How to create a reference plane using Reference Geometry command.
  • How to give thickness to surface using Thicken command.
  • How to make a Boss or Pad using Extruded Boss/Base command.
  • How to make and use center line or construction line.
  • Feature mirror about plane using Mirror command.

  • How to make Rib using Rib command.
  • How to cut the material using Cut Revolve command.
  • Rendering in Solidworks 2010.
As listed above this very simple Mug is made by using a lot of useful commands. It covers most of the Surfacing and Modeling tools in Solidworks 2010 and create a better understanding of 3D tools.
